It's Easter time already. For many of us this is a special time to share with family and friends, perhaps getting in that last camping trip or BBQ before the cold weather really sets in. For the little people in our lives (and many of the big people) it is about the chocolate and searching the garden for the sweet treats Easter Bunny has hidden.
However if you or your loved one has food allergies it can be another reminder of all the foods you are not able to have and requires a little more forethought to avoid that feeling of isolation and disappointment.
Some tips to help make your Easter a success:
Prepare your own allergy friendly Easter treats. Get kids involved helping to decorate biscuits or cupcakes.
Take your own allergy friendly Easter treats to egg hunts so your child does not feel left out
Host your own Easter hunt involving treats that are not food based such as balloons, pens, stickers, party blowers, glow sticks, bubbles, hair clips etc.
Share time together decorating empty and clean egg shells or painting egg boxes. If your child has a severe egg allergy you could use plastic or wooden eggs.
If visiting friends or family let them know about any special dietary requirements your family has well in advance, get them to keep any packaging and check over this with them. It is always a good idea to bring along food that you know is safe.
Check the ingredients on all food packaging as ingredients does change from time to time.
Be sure to take any allergy medication you may require with you.
